I utterly humiliated him. None of my heroes ever came close to being threatened while Voss could hardly get a single minion out.
Next try. Again I took 3 heroes (Haka, Fanatic, Tempest) and brought the battle to Baron Blade in the Ruins of Atlantis. A few turns in I managed to draw some lucky cards and emboldened Tempest who had his armor card and elemental thingy out. I was now able to heal all heroes for 4 HP a turn which went up to 6 when I drew the environment card that increases all damage and healing by 1. The good Baron never scratched my heroes - in the end, I won with everyone at full HP.
Could a rule have been misplayed? Each power can only be played once per turn. Embolden doesn't let you get around that, it lets you play a different power. So you could heal all heroes for 2 HP a turn and 3/turn with the Environment card.
That aside, difficulty in the game can be hard to gauge as others have said. Villains vary in difficulty, and a lucky or unlucky draw from them can change difficulty notably. Advance is often a solid way to increase difficulty, but sometimes it gets really tough.
