My guess is that this game is too new for them to do a "big box" thing. It only came out in 2012, and by my observation, most big box releases come out at least three years later. I know Kingdom Builder (released 2011) is coming out with a big box at the end of the year, but it is a Spiel des Jahres winner, and published by Queen Games which seems to have a big box business model.
So with SoM you are looking at both a newer release and a small publisher, so my guess is you'd be waiting a really long time. And as other users have already responded, the next expansion is going to be in the same size box as the Enhanced Edition. So I expect that it is intended to act as the storage solution for future releases.
And just in terms of practicality, a box that holds everything, would be super heavy. I have the Enhanced Edition with a few small expansions and it is already one of the heaviest games I own, and that's without the main three expansions. I imagine a SoM big box could injure a small child if it fell off a shelf.
Of course all this is my own speculation and personal opinion, so you never know.

Not sure if youre commenting on my big box bit.
But that was their term for it.
Itll be bigger than the expansions, on par with the base game box.
Thus a 'big box' expansion.
But yeah, if they had 'One box to fit them all' (sorry to finished LoTR again) itd kill a cat if it fell on it.
No, I understood - I thought I was just reiterating what you'd said. When I was saying "big box" I was imaging something even bigger (like the Alhambra big box), and thus even heavier.
