We used this variant in 2 games with Shattered Timelines.
- Chrono Ranger & Omnitron-X vs Le Capitan in Silver Gulch.
- Chrono Ranger & The Scholar vs Kismet in Time Cataclysm.
Both were wins (easy mode) with the heroes taking about 8-15 damage each. Having only to focus on 1 hero made the game much more enjoyable. I can see the random Support deck (I'm not using the term Sidekick :p ) helps alleviate the problem of using 2 heroes that lack a certain type of ability e.g. healing, ongoing/environment card removal.
This needs to be added to the offical rulebook. :)

I concur.
