My girlfriend and I sat down for the first time with Sentinels last night and had a great time! We decided to use Legacy and Wraith against Baron Blade in Megalopolis. I was a hotly contested battle, but we barely squeezed by with Legacy down to 1 HP and Wraith around 7 HP before finally taking down Baron Blade. It should be noted that neither of us had seen either hero before or Baron Blade, we just opened the box and started playing.
It was clear to me right off of the bat, that based on my initial draw I (Legacy) was primarily going to be meat-shielding for my girlfriend (Wraith). Thankfully, she was able to play a projectile damage bonus equipment card early on and quickly got her multiple power turn ongoing card in play. I was able to use a variety of ongoing cards to provide a few damage bonuses, and she was very quickly doing 10 damage per turn, with me absorbing a majority of the damage via redirect. Do to the way the environment cards played, I was continuously burning cards in my hand to clear various hazards, and was fairly limited in my utility outside of tanking.
It was a great first session, but it did lead to a few questions:
1) Are we correct in reading that the villain/environment turns have 3 distinct phases (start, play, end), meaning any card drawn and played during a turn doesn't have it's start condition triggered until the next turn, but does have any end turn condition triggered on the same turn.
2) Wraith's grappling hook ability can remove any environment card. Does that apply even if that card is a target (the Train for example)?
3) Legacy has an ongoing card that allows him to reduce any hit taken over 5 damage to 3 damage. This card led to two issues. First, how do other damage reduction cards affect this ability? Secondly, we assumed that any damage redirected to Legacy had to utilize this ability sequentially rather than in parallel. For example, Baron Blade had an ability that would deal each hero something around 15 damage based on the number of ongoing cards we had in play. Accordingly, I could redirect the applied damage from Wraith to Legacy. However, Legacy would take his initial 15 -> 3 damage, then her 15 -> 3 damage, for a total of 6 damage on the turn, rather than a combined 30 -> 3 damage for a total of 3 damage on the turn. Is this correct?
4) Is the game meant to be played with at least 3 heroes?
Overall, we really enjoyed the game. It was hard for us to keep up with the initial accounting, but once we got in the habit of moving the markers around, the accounting become much simpler. We're definitely looking forward to more epic battles in the future!

Your questions 1, 2, and 4 can all be answered in a single word: Yes. The most common way for 2 players to play is for each of them to use 2 Heroes, alternating. If you're playing with a younger player, you might use 2 Heroes and have the other player use 1.
The answer to question 3 is a little more complicated, in part because you read the card wrong. If Legacy takes 5 or more damage from a single source, the damage is reduced BY 3, not TO 3. So, the 15 from Baron Blade would have been reduced to 12.
If Wraith had used Smoke Bombs to redirect damage to Legacy (which would only be if it targeted the Hero target with the lowest hit points, as opposed to all Heroes, IIRC), the 15 would have been redirected and reduced by 1 to a total of 14, and then Legacy's card would have kicked in to bring the total to 11.
Legacy/Wraith is a pretty good start to a very versatile combination, really only lacking a primary damage-dealer (possibly like Ra, Bunker, or Haka).
