if your kids are smart enough to play magic or other card games with text they will be able to do this but reading is importantMy son is 9 my wife is my age I thought he would love the game and she would not even look at it but both of them surprised me. My son could take it or leave it. My wife thinks its cool and has even asked to bring it to the table. I always handle the book keeping for villains and environments.
We have had wins as well as losses.
My son has no particular mental connection with super heroes yet and none of these are familiar to him although he likes Bunker and Ra he can handle the math and reading fine the strategy is easy for him to understand but he can read and under stand most basic magic cards. His favorite game (and he is good at it) is Puerto Rico
My wife thinks the cards are cool and she likes strong female types and this game is loaded with them. she is not a gamer by nature so she has strategy and timing questions but still has figured much on her own.
When we play with the 3 of us I scenario that a hero has been downed like Legacy flipping him over to his incapacitated side and one of us will run him at the beginning of the hero's phase. Its seems to give us a fighting chance.
My group is 6 ppl max also. when we have played with 6 I run and book keep the villain and the environment. Its a bit like being GM. I don't mind it since its about playing games with my friends.
If you are smart and organized about book keeping games and your kids can read and comprehend well it will be easy enough to have fun.
